"Bridgestone Lights the Wisdom" Library Initiative

The Bridgestone Lights the Wisdom (Library for local primary school) project was established in 2002 to provide an important knowledge-searching source further than the classroom of the local schools and communities. Thai Bridgestone had contributed to the set-up of libraries to the local schools in 3 nearby provinces - Pathumthani, Ayuthaya and Saraburi where 2 Bridgestone plants are located at. In this project, Thai Bridgestone coordinates with the Provincial Education Office to select schools for the committee to evaluate their readiness, necessity, enthusiasm and then finally select around 5-10 schools each year to build the library. Funds that go into this project not only support the construction of libraries, but also include the improvement of book shelves, tables, chairs, library equipments, as well as new books. Until now, Thai Bridgestone has built a total of 94 libraries and almost 30,000 students have benefitted from this project.

Bridgestone "Rides the Future" Project

In developing countries, many children do not have the privilege to attend necessary education due to poverty and significant travel distances between their schools and homes. Many children have to walk along rough roads to get to their schools, while others take small service trucks which are dangerously crowded and costly. This condition can be seen in the North Eastern region of Thailand. In that region, Thai Bridgestone coordinates the "Bridgestone Rides the Future" project with The Education for Development Foundation (EDF), which is a specialist non-governmental organization on education development project in North Eastern of Thailand. The project is done in collaboration with schools to select junior high school students to whom Thai Bridgestone donates a 3-year scholarship and lends a bicycle each to ride to school during the 3 years. The school would support the maintenance kit for students which would also be funded by Thai Bridgestone during this period. This project was started in 2006 for 300 students and has since extended across 18 provinces in the Northeast of Thailand, reaching out to 1800 students till date.

Science and Robot Learning Centre

Science and technology learning in high school level is an important basis to encourage the new generation of local human resource in the science-related aspect and to inspire to them to be inventors in the future. Therefore, Thai Bridgestone has established the Science and Robot Learning Centre in the high schools in North Eastern region of Thailand to support and develop them to be more learning-oriented. At the same time, the project also aims to develop the school's human resources and capabilities in management to be hub for other local school network activities such as Science and Technology camps, Science Exhibition Week, Young Scientist Contests and Astronomy Camps etc. Thai Bridgestone has provided financial support for chemistry experimental materials, physics exhibitions, science hardwares and softwares, biological and physical models, astronomy equipments, robots and other equipments. Until now, a total of 15 centres have been built and more than 50,000 students have benefitted from this project.

Bridgestone Scholarship

In Thailand, Thai Bridgestone has been giving out scholarships since 2002 to support the underprivileged graduation students as well as students that have continuously performed well academically in order to encourage and provide opportunities for education in courses that are important for the society's development such as Engineering, Science, Agriculture or Natural Resource, Economics and Law. The scholarships are given out across 12 national universities in Thailand, summing up to approximately 180 scholarship per year.

The Nature and Agriculture Education Centre

Funded by Thai Bridgestone Co., Ltd, The Nature and Agriculture Education Centre (NAEC), was established in 2005 in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives as well as WWF Thailand as a learning centre for the environmental and nature conservation of central plains ecosystem. In the first phrase (2005-2007), Thai Bridgestone supported in the restoration of the site and development of environmental education activities while providing training courses on nature resource, ecosystem and environmental conservation for students through outdoor classes. In second phrase (2008-2011), Thai Bridgestone further contributed funding for the development of education areas, nature and environment education activities as an effective learning source.

Green Young Investigator Contest

In 2009, Thai Bridgestone launched a new environmental study project for students from 80 schools in 5 central provinces (Nonthaburi, Pathumthani, Saraburi, Ayudhya and Nakornnayok). In this project, students are given 3-7 months to conduct researches in environmental conservation of their community in order to contest in 3 award categories. This project is conducted in conjunction with the Nature and Agriculture Education Center Project as well.

Green Hands Activity

The Green Hands Activity was started in 2006 to allow Thai Bridgestone's managers, voluntary employees, their children and local students in communities of both Rangsit and Nongkhae plants to contribute to the society through environmental conservation, waste management, while learning about the eco-system and biodiversity. Through this activity, participants also have a chance to plant trees as a part of land-rehabilitation and to reduce global warming. Furthermore, these activities also allow participants to deepen relations amongst fellow employees, the local community, as well as with government and non-government organizations. This activity is held 4 times a year, annually.

Bridgestone Family Rally

A "Thai Bridgestone Rally Club" has been established between Thai Bridgestone and customers who have been participating in Rally Trainings since 1987. The club arranges rally competition activities, and also makes donations of learning and sport equipments to the people in need, as well as to other activities like tree planting.

Visit to a Local Orphanage

Bridgestone Tire Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd.

Bridgestone Tire Manufacturing (Thailand) visited the Lorenso orphan house in Chonburi province and arranged entertainment activities for children at the home. Apart from visiting them, Bridgestone also donated facilities to support their living. Children in Lorenso orphan house are children who have lost their parents due to AIDS.

Health Check-Up Camps for Villagers in Remote Villages

Bridgestone India Private Ltd. (BSID) has always focused on activities to spread awareness on health and hygiene in society. To spearhead its mission in 2011, BSID organized health check-up camps in villages adjoining the BSID plant. A year later, in 2012, BSID sounded out feedback on the 2011 activity and took the activity a step further by planning out a new series of specialized Health Checkup Camps. The new camps will serve:
1. ANC women and infants aged 0 to 5 years (maternal and infant mortality are major problems in India).
2. Teenage students who require health check-ups and counselling on the hardships of adolescence in village life. Specialists from different fields of medical science (e.g., Gynecologists, general physicians, and pediatricians) were asked to render services to improve health in the village communities.
Seven camps were organized and more than 1,200 people have been examined and counseled so far. Camp personnel also take steps to improve health awareness when conducting the medical check-up and counseling sessions.


E-Learning Centre

Infrastructure in the rural areas of India is far too undeveloped to support computer literacy curricula in rural schools. Bridgestone India Private Ltd. (BSID) established an e-learning centre at Government High School, Kheda (the village adjoining the BSID plant, with a student population of about 500) by providing four computers along with required infrastructure such tables, chairs, and electrical fixtures. The e-learning centre not only gives the students of Kheda a chance to learn basic skills, but also encourages the new generation in the rural area to build careers in computer-related fields, and to inspire others to be self-dependent in the future. Apart from providing infrastructure, BSID is also helping the centre staff maintain the facilities by arranging periodic visits. About 200 students in grades 8 to 10 will study at the centre every year. Teachers will also have the chance to stay up to date on computer technology and social and cultural development around the globe.


Donation for Natural Disaster Victims

In response to the earthquake and tsunami disasters in Japan in March 2011, the employees of Bridgestone Indonesia raised funds for humanitarian aid through their union in hope of easing the burdens of the disaster victims and bringing about a faster recovery.

Vertical Rescue Training

PT. Bridgestone Tire Indonesia

At Bridgestone Indonesia, a group of employees has formed a SAR (search and rescue) team in preparation of the event of any natural disaster. If a natural disaster strikes, the team will be on hand to assist in evacuation, food distribution, and other emergency response measures. In June and November 2011, the SAR Team successfully organized a Vertical Rescue Training activity to further train the team. The activity was useful in developing and sharpening the team's emergency-response and rescue skills.

Blood Donation Activity

In 2011, PT. Bridgestone Tire Indonesia conducted a blood donation activity at their headquarters once and twice at each of their two manufacturing plants in Bekasi and Karawang. Blood donation has become a priority activity for employees, with growing numbers of donors year by year and Bridgestone Indonesia will continue to hold blood donations activities annually. This activity gives Bridgestone employees the opportunity to enhance their awareness about the importance of blood donation, and to do their part in contributing to the society.

Donation for the Needy

PT. Bridgestone Tire Indonesia

Every year, the neighbourhood around Bridgestone Indonesia's plant holds the "Idul Qurban", a religious ceremony for the sacrificial slaughtering of a goat or cow. The meat of the animal sacrificed in this ceremony is distributed to needy people in the city. Bridgestone Indonesia has been participating in this by donating the cow for the ceremony and they hope that this activity would allow them to enhance togetherness with the community as well.

Assisting School Children in Crossing Roads Safely

PT. Bridgestone Tire Indonesia

In response to concerns about traffic safety particularly among the youth, and also the high number traffic accidents occuring among school children when crossing roads, PT. Bridgestone Tire Indonesia conducted an activity to assist school children in crossing roads in Karawang and Bekasi, Indonesia. The main targets of this activity were primary school children between the ages of 6 to 9 years old. Volunteers were employees from Bridgestone Indonesia Bekasi and Karawang who formed teams, coordinating in each area. Besides assisting the children in crossing the roads, the teams also re-emphasized to them about importance of the proper and safe ways to cross roads. These activities were held twice both in Karawang and Bekasi within the period of 2010.

Blood Donation Activity

The shortage of blood for transfusions is a problem that the Taiwanese society faces, and to help solve that issue, Bridgestone Taiwan carries out blood donation activities two times a year, annually for the local community.

A Day Out with Children from a Children's Home

In February 2011, Bridgestone Taiwan organized one-day of tour and activities for some children from a children's home, taking them together with some teachers to the "Window on China Theme Park" in Taiwan. A total of 105 people including Bridgestone employees and family members, children and teachers from the home gathered on this day for some fun at the theme park while Bridgestone Taiwan had also prepared eco bags, lunch boxes, refreshments, and stationery etc. for the children, leaving them with unforgettable memories of the day.

Donation to Support Disaster Relief

Bridgestone Taiwan employees voluntarily raised donations to support disaster-relief in the areas of Japan that had been affected by The Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011.

Charity visit to a Senior Citizens Care Centre

Bridgestone Tyre Sales (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.

Bridgestone Malaysia arranged a charity visit to a Senior Citizens Care Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in September 2011. The non-profit centre takes care of abandoned old folks as well as those who suffer from illnesses. More than 50 old folks now reside there. On the day of the visit, Bridgestone staff and together with their Managing Director brought daily consumable items such as cookies, fresh vegetables, poultry, beverages for the old folks. By taking part in this activity, Bridgestone employees were able to understand the current living environment of these elderly and were also given the chance to contribute to the centre's efforts in helping and supporting these beneficiaries.

Cooperative Program with University

Bridgestone Tire Sales Korea Ltd.

Bridgestone Korea currently conducts a cooperative program with Daeduk University in Korea, a local school that provides its own tyre-related engineering course. Through the program, Bridgestone provides support in terms of training materials on tyres, giving special lectures on Bridgestone's tyre technology as well as organizing field trips to Bridgestone's facilities such as to dealers shops and factories.

Visit to a Local Nursing Home

In March 2012, Bridgestone Vietnam personally delivered 140 gifts to the elderly residents of a local nursing home in Ho Chi Minh City. Gifts were presented, words were exchanged, hands were clasped in friendship, and a lunch of togetherness was shared. All of the visiting members from Bridgestone were deeply moved by the experience, especially through interaction with the elderly over the lunch session. Joy spread on all of of volunteers faces as they joined together in song. Bridgestone is committed not only to providing products of the best quality, but also to joining hands and bringing joy and happiness to the community and to the less-fortunate in the society

In November 2011, members of Bridgestone Vietnam visited and presented gifts to more than 200 children being cared for in a local home for orphans in Ho Chi Minh City. In addition to donating gifts, employees had also interacted with the chlidren through group activities, creating a friendly, cozy atmosphere. To fulfill the mission of "Serving Society with Superior Quality", Bridgestone always strives to give its best to society.

Seminar for University Students

In November 2011, Bridgestone held a seminar at the University of Natural Science in Vietnam which more than 350 students had attended. The seminar began with a short introduction about the Bridgestone Group followed by a presentation of basic knowledge on tyres and the role and process of tyre manufacturing. Participants of the seminar were encouraged to join in the open discussion. Through sharing Bridgestone's Mission of "Serving Society with Superior Quality", presenters talked about the ambitious dream and vision of Bridgestone's founder, Shojiro Ishibashi in hope of inspiring students to make the right decisions about their own working environments in the future. In the course of this 1-day seminar, Bridgestone also granted 15 scholarships to financially-needy students who had achieved excellent results in their studies. The aim of the seminar was to motivate students to pursue their dreams.

Y-Makan Activity with the less privileged

Bridgestone Tyre Sales Singapore Pte., Ltd.

In 2012, Bridgestone Tyre Sales Singapore Pte., Ltd. continued with our series of activities with YMCA to reach out to the under-privileged. Beneficiaries of the "Y-Makan" activity held in 2012 were members from the Handicapped Welfare Association. "Makan" means "to eat" in the Malay language. We arranged a fun-filled program with games, a magic show, and lunch to entertain the beneficiaries. Each beneficiary also received a goodie bag before leaving the venue. Bridgestone Tyre Sales Singapore will continue to serve society as a member of the Bridgestone group.
