Guayule - “Plant to Produce Rubber” grown in arid zones -
Engaging in the research and development for a new source of natural rubber.
The Bridgestone Group has been engaged in research and development of guayule—a shrub native to arid regions that can be grown with little water—as a new source of natural rubber for decades.
The group has accumulated knowledge related to cultivating, processing, and using guayule in tires, through development of such tires and through open-innovation in technologies for propagating the shrub. Planting more guayule could also expand green land.
The group will continue driving efforts aiming for practical use of guayule by 2026 and full-scale production and commercialization by 2030.
